"Jason,
As a Jewish member of this country club for many years, I've seen a lot of changes. The older generation here wants to keep things the way they were – they want the club to be a distinctly "Jewish Club" with a certain atmosphere. But those of us involved in business understand the reality of these mergers and buyouts, especially for clubs that have faced financial difficulties. We know it's a complex situation.
I've always appreciated that you treated our community with respect and tried your best to understand our needs, even though you come from a different background. Most of us saw that and were grateful for your support, especially now when it feels like we're facing prejudice once again, not at the club, but in general. (I am sure you have turned on the news.)
Thank you - from many."
In one of my last emails to Maurice, Bob Morse, David Pillsbury, Invited Counsel, and even Mamee Groves, I wrote: "Hate has no place at The Hamlet." I meant it then, and I still mean it now. I'm deeply disappointed that hate was allowed to win in the end. Hate didn't just defeat me; these people actively opened the doors and welcomed it back in.
"Jason, I want to thank you for taking this stand. As a Jewish member of a "Jewish Club," we are all too familiar with persecution. Most of us choose to stay in the shadows and endure, as it's the easier path. But taking a stand like you have is much harder, and we truly applaud your courage."
Thank you, sir. Hate has no place in my world. - JV
